In 2026, Topdrill proudly celebrates 20 years of exploration excellence.
What began in 2006 with a single rig and a big idea has grown into a trusted partner in the Australian mining and exploration sector. Over two decades, Topdrill has built capability, deepened expertise, and delivered performance through a culture shaped by its people, values, and purpose. For 20 years, we’ve stood by our ethos — Trusted to perform. Proven to deliver. Today, we reflect on the milestones that matter most and look forward confidently to what comes next.
From humble beginnings to industry leader
Tim Topham started Topdrill in a small yard in Kalgoorlie-Boulder with a determination to be the largest privately owned drilling contractor in Australia. In the years that followed, capability grew — not just in the fleet, but in the range of services, skillsets, and outcomes we could offer clients.
The introduction of our first Diamond drilling rig in 2013 was a defining milestone that expanded our technical ability and opened new opportunities in more challenging environments. This was more than an equipment acquisition; it was an investment in capability and confidence, enabling Topdrill to take on diverse projects with a competitive edge.

Fast forward to 2026, and Topdrill now operates40 industry-leading rigs. We’ve built one of the largest and most capable fleets in the country. Each rig represents more than a piece of equipment; they’re the centrepiece showcasing the skill, dedication, and expertise of the people who operate and maintain them, and the reliability clients have come to expect from every program we undertake. This scale and capability allow us to tackle complex exploration projects across Australia with confidence, efficiency, and precision.

People at the heart of performance
Topdrill’s success is shaped by the people who show up every day with professionalism and pride in their trade. From drill crews to support teams, every person has played a role in building our reputation for performance and reliability.
Safety has always been a priority — not just in policy, but in practice. Through the introduction of initiatives like our in-house Drill School in 2022, we’re able to support ongoing competency development and create pathways for growth and leadership within our teams. This commitment to capability and care has kept us resilient through good times and challenging ones alike.
Engaging the community and making an impact
Reaching 20 years has also given us the chance to look beyond drilling metres and focus on making an impact. Topdrill is proud to support a wide range of community and charitable initiatives across Western Australia, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), Mason’s House, Women in Mining WA (WIMWA), the Clontarf Foundation, and Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). These partnerships reflect our commitment to giving back, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for people both within and beyond the mining sector.
A standout achievement has been the growth of the Resources Industry Charity Sundowner, which has raised more than $1.5 million over its 5 years; a testament to the generosity of our people and partners, and our commitment to giving back.
This milestone isn’t just about the number raised, it’s about the difference made and the community connections forged along the way.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate this milestone, we do more than look back — we look forward. The next chapter of Topdrill is about continuing to build capability, deepen relationships, and invest in people and innovation.
We remain dedicated to performance with purpose, and to a future where exploration drilling is safer, smarter, and more connected than ever before.
